Portable Flowmeter used in Hydro-Electric Scheme

RS Hydro were recently employed to test the efficiency of various hydro-electric turbines in the UK using a portable ultrasonic clamp on flow meter on pipes up to 2000mm in diameter - bigger than the average person!

Large pipes and flow meters have historically sent shivers down any project engineer's back, but thankfully those days are behind us. RS Hydro were recently employed to test the efficiency of various hydro-electric turbines in the UK using a portable ultrasonic clamp on flow meter on pipes up to 2000mm in diameter - bigger than the average person! A PT878 flow meter was used to prove that the technology was applicable. As such, permanent flow meters will be used to monitor flowrates, turbine failure, leakage and also to control the main turbine penstocks.

Costs associated with installing a full-bore electromagnetic flow meter would be ten times that of an ultrasonic, significant downtime of up to 1 month per turbine. It is easy to see why the ultrasonic flow metering market is the fastest growing technology worldwide.
