RS Hydro have recently won a contract to supply, install and commission 3 twin-channel GC868 flow meters to measure compressed air flow GC868 flow meters to be installed in Almeria, Spain. Twin channel devices were specified to achieve higher measurement accuracy. By using two pairs of transducers it is possible to average any measurement errors thus offering potential accuracies of <1% of rate on pipelines greater than 6" (150mm).
The Panametrics GC868 flow meter is a permanent clamp on flowmeter comprised of a transmitter/display, a pair of advanced clamp-on ultrasonic transducers, clamping fixtures, preamplifiers and coaxial cables to connect the transducers to the preamplifier and GC868 electronics. The GC868 flowmeter can be used to measure any gas or steam including nitrogen, argon, oxygen, air, steam, natural gas and methane.
The main advantages of the GC868 flowmeter is that it is non-intrusive and can measure erosive, corrosive, toxic, high-purity or sterile gases in an environment where it is not desirable to use conventional intrusive flow meters. Since no cutting of the pipe wall is necessary and downtime costs are minimised, installation costs are significantly reduced. The meter has no wetted or moving parts, requires no maintenance, causes no pressure drop and has a large turndown ratio.
